What is the SRS system?

The SRS (supplemental restraint system) is designed to protect the driver and passengers in the event of a collision. All makes are including this system by default on all vehicles. SRS consists of sensitive crash sensors, air bags and seat belt igniters as well as other systems and sensors, monitored by the control module (the main ECU), responsible for a timeliness activation when an accident is detected.

If the SRS control module breaks down, all system gets useless so airbags and seat belts cannot be deployed at the right time to protect any occupant during the accident. That is why the airbag module reset is necessary as well as to repair your seat belts if they were deployed.

How the SRS system works and what does the Airbag Light ON mean?

The SRS is designed for a single  activation. Inside every module there is a memory component that changes when a very sensitive crash sensor is activated.

After the accident many of the supplemental restraint system components could be replaced without servicing or changing the SRS control module, but the airbag warning light will continue “ON” in the dashboard signaling a current error. Even though most components were replaced, under this condition the system is still not active, and no airbags would be deployed in case of a new accident. You are no longer safe.

The SRS electronic control unit (ECU), by means of which setting up, diagnostics, and actioning of monitored elements are held, provides all system functioning. In case a sensor fails, a related electric circuit trips out, a system halt occurs, or a malfunction of other elements related the SRS arise, the airbag light will go on.

Under normal working conditions the warning light shows up with the ignition “ON”, a test to the whole system is performed by the SRS ECU and if everything is found operational, the warning light will go off a few seconds after.

If the warning light does not go "OFF" as expected above, this means the system is disabled and you are no longer safe. In this case, the airbag control module reset should be conducted.

In case an internal error of the SRS control module occurs and the indicator light goes "ON" for no apparent reason, your airbag system is not active anymore so deem requiring a reset.

In the event of a collision, the crash sensor transmits data to the SRS module, where it is recorded, and the airbag light will be displayed on the dashboard. To fix this problem, the airbag module must be reset or reprogrammed.

There might be some cases where other components and ECUs, not directly wired to the SRS system, are still related and leading the airbag control module to turn the warning light ON. Among other systems we can find the cccupant or passenger classification systems including the seat weight sensors, or the discrete G-sensors or acceleration units, and even in other cases the instrument clusters or dashboards. Under these circumstances, a simple scan to your vehicle will not give you enough information to diagnose where the problem is. Our experience will help you to find a complete solution making your vehicle safe again on the road.

If the SRS is not active , you could be seriously injured and endanger the lives of your passengers. We invited you to monitor the condition of the SRS system and get it serviced as soon as possible.

In what cases is necessary to service the airbag module for crash data reset?

If the car:
* was in a collision
* has the airbag light ON
* after deployment of airbags or seat belts

Why to reset you airbag module with Safe and Smart Drive Canada Ltd?

Car dealerships do not provide SRS module reset service. Even though the airbag control module is operation but with crash data, they will replace this one with a brand-new unit along with the airbags. Because it is operational it can be reset and reused without fear for your safety.

This is also an advantageous solution since the price for crash data reset service is much lower than the price of the brand-new unit, installation and reprogramming service. After reprogramming the airbag computer, you will have a fully functional SRS module, as it will no longer have crash data recorded. The cost of this service is a fraction of the cost of a new module.

Remember that the module is your original so no reprogramming to your vehicle is required. The SRS airbag control module reset will set the system to its original state, DTC’s will be cleared, and module will be unlocked.

To get this service, it is recommended to contact specialized companies. If you decide to reprogram an airbag control module on your own, it can be ineffective and can lead to serious problems or damage.
